The discovery of antimatter in the early 1930s posed a new puzzle: at some point in the past, the universe contained equal amounts of matter and antimatter, which should have annihilated each other completely. The phenomenology of the violation of the CP symmetry by the fundamental interactions is a fascinating subject which, even after decades of dedicated theoretical and experimental research, is far to be fully understood. While investigations of the K and B systems have and will continue to play a central role in this field of research, in–depth examinations of the D mesons sector have yet to be performed with enough precision, leaving a gap in our knowledge. This book describes a search for CP violation in Cabibbo-suppressed neutral D decays to two charged pions or kaons performed using the proton-antiproton collisions recorded at the Fermilab's TeVatron collider by the CDF experiment during February 2002 and January 2010. The result is the current most accurate determination of CP-violating asymmetries in these decays and represents a pioneering measurement of high precision CP violation in the charm sector at hadron colliders that has been of inspiration for the similar studies which are now ongoing at the CERN's Large Hadron Collider.

The improvements in scanning systems and methods which have been done in the CHORUS collaboration, solved this problem. Discrete symmetries as parity P, charge conjugation C and time reversal T, as well as their combinations such as CP and CPT play a fundamental role in particle physics. The CP symmetry violation was discovered unexpectedly in 1964 during the regeneration studies of the neutral K mesons, and result in a far–reaching consequences. In the framework of the Standard Model it implies the existence of the third generation of quarks. Moreover, it is a very important mechanism which could have an essential contribution to the asymmetry between matter and antimatter in the Universe. Parameters describing CP violation in neutral kaon decays were measured with a good precision and at present the main experimental effort is focused on studies of the neutral B and D meson systems. However, there are still several interesting open issues in the kaon physics, like rare Ks meson decays. This work is focused on the measurement of the rare CP violating Ks>3?0 decay branching ratio based on the data sample gathered with the KLOE detector operating at the ?–factory DA?NE in the Italian National Center for Nuclear Physics in Frascati.

#### Development of the LHCb Vertex Locator Readout Electronics

The LHCb experiment is built at the LHC collider at CERN. It is a forward single-arm spectrometer dedicated to precision measurements of CP violation and rare decays in the b quark sector. In the Standard Model, CP violation arises via the complex phase of the 3 x 3 CKM (Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa) quark mixing matrix. The LHCb experiment will test the unitarity of this matrix by measuring in several theoretically unrelated ways all angles and sides of the so-called "unitary triangle". This will allow to over-constrain the model and - hopefully - to exhibit inconsistencies which will be a signal of physics beyond the Standard Model. The Vertex reconstruction is a fundamental requirement for the LHCb experiment. Displaced secondary vertices are a distinctive feature of b-hadron decays. This signature is used in the LHCb topology trigger. The Vertex Locator (VeLo) has to provide precise measurements of track coordinates close to the interaction region. These are used to reconstruct production and decay vertices of beauty-hadrons and to provide accurate measurements of their decay lifetimes. The VeLo electronics was designed in parallel with the silicon detector development.

The present thesis concerns the studies on the Bose-Einstein correlations for pions and Fermi-Dirac correlations for antiprotons and protons. The spatial transverse radius of the pion source was determined at $R_{\bot}=0.591 \pm 0.015(stat) \pm 0.034(syst)$ fm, while the source radius for antiprotons at $R = 0.16 \pm 0.04(stat) \pm 0.03(syst)$ fm. The measurements under consideration were performed using data collected by the DELPHI experiment at LEP. The results of both the author's analyses and other LEP studies established strong dependence of the correlation radius on hadron rest mass. The correlation radii for pions, kaons, protons and $\Lambda$ hyperons were estimated on the basis of correlation functions, which were determined within the model by A. Bia\l{}as and K. Zalewski describing the above dependence. Predictions of the model proved to be consistent with the experimental results.

Negative atomic ions are often considered to be perfect objects for fundamental studies of photon-matter interactions within many-particle processes. Investigations of the dynamics of photodetachment can provide useful insight to the general problem of correlated motions of electrons in atomic systems. The recent development of the Many-Body Theory approach, namely the method based on Random-Phase approximation and Dyson equation, is reviewed in the book. The case of study on photodetachment with emphasis on resonant features for a series of negative ions and the newest data on inner-shell photodetachment are presented. The results of the concrete calculations for the very sensitive to proper account of the many-electron correlations open-shell negative ions are compared with the available experimental data. The objects chosen present the wide range of the resonance types - strong near-threshold and window resonances, interference and autodetachment resonances, shape and Feschbach resonances - and give the most telling example of importance of the collective effects. With using the Feynman diagram technique the physical meaning of the considered effects becomes especially evident.

Linear estimates of hydrodynamic and morpho-dynamic parameters during passage of different storms were analysed and are explained in this book to demonstrate the potential of radar measurement in capturing essential characteristics of coastal dynamics. Radar image provides instantaneous distribution of wave crests, with image sequence comprising a clear spatial and temporal variation of the wave pattern. A sequence of radar images was used to estimate water depths using linear dispersion relationship. Analyses on radar echo images were done to estimate temporal and spatial variation of water fronts by digitizing time stack images. Longshore distribution of mean shoreline positions and inter-tidal foreshore slopes were also estimated using time averaged images. Wave run-up was estimated from the digitized water fronts with the help of foreshore profile. The study will provide better understandings about radar imagery in nearshore areas. The deep geothermal fluids supplied from below in the central part of the volcano has an enthalpy of 1085 kJ/kg (250oC) and a mass flow of 230 kg/s to 250 kg/s. Up flow of hot water occurs beneath the collapse wall area, and flows laterally, then some portion of the water is discharged at Gedongsongo area. The estimated geothermal potentials is 40.4 MW with assume as 3 km the thicknesses of reservoir.

The complexity of quantum chromodynamics in the non-perturbative domain forces physicist to resort to models in order to describe the phenomena of intermediate energy physics and hence this book develops three different quark models to study light and some heavy mesons: a non relativistic quark model with one-gluon-exchange potential(OGEP) and Instanton-Induced Interaction (III); a semi-relativistic quark model with OGEP and III where the confinement of the quark is modeled with the relativistic harmonic model; a relativistic model where the features of the two previous models are supplemented with the introduction of gluon confinement and thus confined one-gluon-exchange potential (COGEP). Both tensor and spin-orbit parts of the interactions are taken into account in all the three models. It begins with an introduction to the quark model of hadrons covering the SU(3) symmetry in chapter 1 and it discusses in detail the constituent quark models in chapter 2. The three models and a description on decays are developed in chapters 3 and 4. The results and conclusions are presented in chapters 5 and 6. This book predicts mass spectra and certain decays of light and some heavy mesons.

Reliable identification of the above mentioned resonances requires to use 4pi and high precision measurements of the sought objects. The 2m propane bubble chambers(PBC) with precision film methods is unique multi-propose and higher-informative 4pi detector for study of exotic multi-strange events with V0 particles, light hyper-nucleus,V0-V0 interactions and other correlations. The full experimental information of more than 700 000 stereo photographs or million p+propane inelastic ineractions at 10 GeV/c have been used to collect of events with V0 strange particles. The fit of the GRIND-based program GEOFIT is used to measure the kinematic parameters of the tracks: p(momentum), alpha(depth angle) and beta(azimuth angle). The momentum resolution is to 2.1% for stopped particles and 9.8% for nonstopped particles. The mean values for errors of the depth and azimuth angles are equal to 0.7 and 0.3 degree, respectively. The observed well known Sigma(*+)(1385) and K(*+)(890)resonances are a good test for this method. A survey of new experiments with much improved statistics compared to those early PBC data would hopefully answer the question whethersuch "exotic" exist.

Giant resonances are highly collective states of nuclear vibration. The compressional-mode giant resonances provide the only direct experimental measurement of the nuclear incompressibility, a fundamental property of nuclear matter that is crucial to understanding of a number of nuclear and astrophysical phenomena, including strength of collapse in supernovae explosions, collective-flow in high-energy heavy ion collisions, and properties of neutron stars—the “largest nuclei” that exist in nature. Prof. Garg’s group has been investigating the Isoscalar Giant Dipole Resonance, an exotic compressional-oscillation, also referred to as the “squeezing mode”. Dr. Tao li designed a sophisticated experiment to measure the giant resonances of Sn even isotopes between 112 and 124. The experiment is performed at RCNP, Osaka, Japan, in which a high resolution "Grand Raiden" is capable to take such high resolution measurement. Some computational methods, and programming code was developed by Dr. Li to analyze the data. The result gives us the better understanding to the nuclear impressionability, which is a ground stone of the nuclei.

The study aims to explore empirically how far the roles adopted by the mentors of Arabic language student teaching in Jordan coincide with a model of roles suggested in the literature of teacher training. The results of this study are reported in respect of two qualitative research techniques using evidence from the three rounds of interviews with (11) mentors of Arabic and their (14) students and the observation and field notes taken during fieldwork. The findings provide a detailed picture of the actual roles adopted by mentors of Arabic in Jordan at each stage of the student induction. In the first stage, the results of both interviews and observation and field notes showed that different weight was given to the mentors'' roles on both dimensions: the professional and personal. On the professional level, some roles took a major place of mentors'' work during the early days of induction. On the personal level, the social relationship between the mentors and their students was superficial so that the communication between them was limited to answering students'' requests on the academic side of the relationship.

In this study, gk gene was disrupted from xylitol dehydrogenase gene (XYL2) knockout C. tropicalis strain BSXDH-3. The resulting strain was incapable to grow on glycerol. The cells growth on glycerol was resumed by co-expression of gcy1, 2 and 3 genes from Scheffersomyces stipitis under the control of C. tropicalis glyceraldehydes-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) promoter. NADPH-dependent xylitol production was higher in the engineered strain, termed “IA-3”, than in BSXDH-3. The pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) is a major basis of NADPH biosynthesis in C. tropicalis. In order to increase xylitol production rate, xylitol dehydrogenase gene (XYL2)-disrupted C. tropicalis strain BSXDH-3 was engineered to co-express zwf and gnd genes, which respectively encode glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6-PGDH), under the control of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) promoter. NADPH-dependent xylitol production was higher in the engineered strain, termed "PP", than in BSXDH-3. This is the first report of increased metabolic flux toward glycerol metabolic and PPP in C. tropicalis for NADPH regeneration and enhanced xylitol production.

First-order basin morphology has been relatively ignored in geomorphological researches, particularly in complicated geology areas. Therefore, this study was done with an aim to explore geomorphology of the first-order basins in the Siwalik Hills. Using multivariate morphological analysis, the study found that 11,200 first-order basins in the Siwalik Hills were represented by seven morphometric variables and eight basin types. The study demonstrated that a unit of first-order basin is suitable to detect morphological characteristics of geologically complex area. Leading morphometric variables of the basins demonstrated the influence of the neo-tectonics, geological structure (dipping), lithostratigraphy, and landslide process in the Siwalik Hills. Morphology of the Siwaliks is more variable than the resistant units of the Lesser Himalaya. This study contributed to the systematic study of the first-order basins, which can be applied elsewhere.

Earth Observation Science (EOS) is the study of the global Earth land-ocean-atmosphere system through observations. The principal tools for such studies are measurements from space since these provide the coverage of the planet that is necessary to capture the behaviour of the entire coupled system. In addition, surface observations, and measurements from aircraft, balloons and sounding rockets provide valuable contributors to what are now termed "integrated, global observing systems.” Coupled with models, the EOS measurement suites provide powerful tools for research into the factors controlling and changing the Earth system in which we live. The objectives of this book are to describe new methods and applications of satellite technology in the fields of land and emergency monitoring. It draws on new research outcomes from the European FP7 project GIONET (European Centre of Excellence in Earth Observation Research Training). GIONET combines industrial partners with universities and research institutes, and this book provides a perspective on Earth Observation applications that is motivated by the cross-fertilisation of both sectors. Hence, this book will find readers in both industry and academia. This book highlights a broad range of innovative uses of Earth Observation technology to support environmental management, decision making, crisis management and climate policies.
